What will you do?:


As the
Category Marketing Specialist your primary role is to lead the planning, development and implementation of category short, long, and always on communication strategy to drive commercial category performance.

This role is also responsible for end to end project management of relevant category led seasonal events and campaigns, in line with Target's values.

This role will deliver work with insights and analytics to inform category strategy. Identifying category gaps, customer audience and behaviour changes required to achieve marketing objectives and sales growth.

This role will lead a team of category marketing specialists to execute the marketing communications strategy, planning, development and execution.

The role will also be responsible for reporting insights and results back into the category to support in growth opportunities relevant to the product categories managed through insights, data and performance.

This role will be required to work with key stakeholders across functions to support a strategic omni channel communication plan; in particular, the customer insights and data function, the online function, the broader marketing function, and the merchandise function.


Responsibilities include, but not limited:

Build short, long, and always on category communication strategy

  • Leverage customer insights, data and business objectives to develop short and long term category strategy.
  • Translate the Category strategy into actionable communications plan.
  • Develop strong briefs for agencies and internal creative team with clear objectives, key message and measures to evaluate performance of all marketing activities.
  • Responsible for the alignment of all Brand Communications to Brand vision, strategy and adherence to brand style guide.
Identifying category gaps, customer audience and behaviour changes required to achieve marketing objectives and sales growth

  • Work closely with the Insights, Analytics and Performance Marketing teams to become the expert in customer for category and competitor landscape.
  • Develop a clear POV for both long term and short term agile opportunities to drive commercial outcomes
  • Inform what category activity is commercially required into the marketing plan
Be the key merch contact for strategy, category content and marketing support

  • Responsible for managing the 'on time, in full and within budget' delivery of relevant external agencies and suppliers.
  • Work cross functionally to lead and manage all elements of the category communications process to deliver on time and in full, in line with the critical path, ensuring full delivery of the agreed commercial return.
  • Accountable for completion and distribution of communications asset pack on time and in full, in line with critical path.
  • Responsible for leading the development, completion and communication of the quarterly PIR's to ensure ongoing improvement and efficient use of marketing funds.
