About the Division

The Digital Solutions Division (DSD) designs, builds, maintains, and supports large-scale (enterprise) specialised software systems used by departmental staff and businesses to provide quality services to job seekers and employers; respond to national future skills needs through access to VET graduates with the right skills; reduce barriers to undertaking quality VET; administer and implement programs and services related to Workplace Support.


The Role

As a
User Experience Designer, you will work with, or as part of, one or multiple delivery teams responsible for building enterprise class systems for the department.


In a predominantly Microsoft and Azure technology environment, you will work in an agile based environment with Service Designers, Digital Accessibility Officers, Business and System Analysts, Software Designers and Developers, SCRUM Teams, Product Owners, Product Managers, and System Users to advocate for, design, review, and assess User Experience outcomes.


You will understand digital diversity and have a passion for User Experience with the necessary people skills to understand user needs and the relevant technical skills to design and prototype user interfaces in line with user needs and business objectives.


The successful applicant will receive the necessary training, mentoring, and guidance to perform the key responsibilities of the role and to advance their careers in the Australian Public Service (APS).


Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the
APS6 Level may include:


  • Work under limited supervision.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies.
  • Participate in design, planning, and estimation sessions.
  • Conduct UX research and user testing.
  • Analyse information to develop usercentred, user interface designs including wireframes, lowfidelity and highfidelity prototypes.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops.
  • Provide design guidance and solutions to delivery teams throughout project and sustainment life cycles.
  • Monitor the team's workload and delegate tasks as appropriate.
  • If required, travel within Australia to undertake workshops with stakeholders.

Qualifications and Education

Mandatory

  • There are no mandatory knowledge requirements for this position.

Desirable

  • Qualifications in graphic/visual design or another related field
  • Understanding of the Digital Service Standard and the DTA Service Design and Delivery Standard.
