An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Health Worker who will offer assistance to our Aboriginal community and understand the implications of their health, social and cultural environment to ensure a holistic and effective approach with health care delivery.
The Aboriginal Health Worker - Drug and Alcohol position sits within the Drug and Alcohol Youth team.

Here at Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), our Drug and Alcohol Youth Program provides a multifaceted range of services to young people - their partners, families and carers whose physical and/or mental health, personal and social functioning is at risk due to substance use.

The Aboriginal Health Worker will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide flexible, holistic and culturally appropriate health care to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people.

About You

  • You are of Aboriginal descent through parentage and identify as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such
  • You have demonstrated cultural sensitivity in working with Aboriginal people and their extended families and have knowledge of the Aboriginal view of health and wellbeing, family, and kinship practices
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.

Where you'll be working


You will be working with the Drug and Alcohol Counselling Service mainly providing cultural support to Aboriginal client of the Youth Drug and Alcohol Team.

However, you will also be supporting Aboriginal clients from the MERIT Team, Cannabis Clinic and the Counselling Team. This role is based at Wyong, although it also involves travelling to various locations on the Central Coast.

This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks notice. Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency
