ABOUT THE ROLE
The Opportunity Fixed Term (24-months), Full-Time Position. This role will be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD, with the flexibility to work from home under a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)


As the
Principal Category, you will play an integral role in providing the South32 Australian operations with strategically negotiated agreements that drive value, efficiency, productivity, and safety.

As part of the wider Global Operations Category Management team, the role will actively manage underground Heavy Mobile Machinery (HME), Conveyor Belts, and Ventilation categories - focusing on safety and continuous improvement in these categories.

The role will also require extensive stakeholder management activities, including dispute resolution, commercial advice, and conducting workshops.

Reporting to the Manager of Global Category Operations, other key critical role responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

  • Promoting Safety Culture across the Australian Operations and with key suppliers by embedding safety in contract KPIs and Scope and actively pursuing targets.
  • Leading and managing complex contractual negotiations with key strategic suppliers, closely coordinating with legal counsel, management, and internal customers.
  • Advising South32 personnel and stakeholders on contractual rights and responsibilities, which may include ongoing training of stakeholders.
  • Seeking opportunities for Continuous improvement across categories to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, streamline workflows, and reach South32's emissions targets.

ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • A commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
  • Prior experience (minimum 5 years) in a Category Principal or similar Category management role in the mining/resources industry.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, draft, and manage complex global contracts from inception to execution/implementation. Excellent understanding of category management principles and contract law
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including providing extensive commercial support to the operations for the designated category
  • Prior experience in management of HME suppliers (including OEM) and global contracts (desirable)
  • Prior experience in Ariba/SAP, or similar ERP software (desirable)

Qualifications for this position are:

  • A Bachelor's degree in business, commerce, supply chain management, procurement, law, or related field.
  • A Master's Degree or MCIPS and/or CPSM membership may be advantageous
