SOOS Data Officer

  • Full time fixed term position until 31 December 202

The Opportunity


The Data Officer works within the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) International Project Office based at IMAS and leads efforts to build and maintain community and data systems needed to make Southern Ocean observational data more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

The Data Officer collaborates with international stakeholders (researchers, governments, industries), to facilitate design, advocacy, and implementation of cost-effective observing and data delivery systems.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Oversee the delivery of the data objectives of SOOS; ensuring alignment of SOOS data efforts with FAIR data principles, and support enduser engagement and uptake of SOOS data products and tools.
  • Oversee the management of SOOS's key data products, SOOS map, Due South and SOOS's metadata portal.
  • Provide support and leadership within the SOOS Data Management Sub-Committee.
  • Contribute to international data strategy development, and/or travel to international data centres to oversee specific activities as necessary.
  • Provide information, advice, and support for the adoption of best data management practice to the scientific community.

Your Application

  • A degree in a relevant field of science, engineering, or information technology.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Effective leadership, networking, negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Experience in scientific data and information management, familiarity with data tools and infrastructure.
  • Welldeveloped organisational skills and expertise in project management.
  • Experience with spatial/GIS data.
  • Selfmotivated, with the ability to work efficiently and independently under broad supervision.

Remuneration


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $123,548 comprising base salary within the range of $96,071 to $105,597 plus 17% superannuation.
