Salary range:
$125,964-$168,563 plus statutory super

An exciting opportunity exists within the VIT as the Legal Manager (Regulation) within the Professional Conduct Branch of VIT. This is a VIT Grade 6 role.

The Professional Conduct Branch is responsible for VIT's investigations and regulatory legal functions.

The legal team provides legal services across VIT in respect of the discharge of its regulatory functions.

This includes the management of disciplinary litigation involving VIT, (including reviews of decisions in the Victorian Courts and Tribunals) and conducting any criminal prosecutorial action initiated under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.


The legal team within the Professional Conduct Branch is overseen by two managers, the Legal Manager (Regulation) and the Legal Manager (Disciplinary Proceedings).

Collectively, the two managers oversee the work of the whole legal team whilst having primary responsibility of either the regulatory work or disciplinary proceedings work.

The purpose of the role is to co-manage and lead the delivery of VIT's regulatory and disciplinary proceedings legal practice, including:

  • developing and implementing VIT's strategic and regulatory legal frameworks;
- providing expert advice on regulatory legal matters which enables and facilitates the achievement of VIT's strategic objectives;
- providing legal advice and support to investigators with the Professional Conduct Branch to ensure that investigations are undertaken lawfully and in a procedurally fair manner;
- overseeing the management of VIT's interim suspension process and the monthly reviews as well as managing the suspension processes in line with legislation; and
- strategically managing the conduct of all VIT disciplinary proceedings, criminal prosecutions and proceedings before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court of Victoria.


The Legal Manager (Regulation) / Legal Manager (Disciplinary Proceedings) collectively have nine direct reports including, Senior Lawyers, Lawyers and Legal Support Officers.


The role requires overseeing work in relation to sensitive matters, which can involve allegations of child sexual abuse.
