Join us in this newly created Marine Technical Superintendent role which will take technical responsibility of PBPL's fleet of vessels, including providing technical oversight of the TSHD Brisbane and support to the onboard engineering team.


In this role you will:

  • Ensure the effective technical management of the vessels to maintain a state of operational readiness at all times
  • Manage the marine and vessel specific Planned Maintenance System (PMS) requirements for the dredger, and assist with all other marine fleet, ensuring compliance with flag state, classification and PBPL policy requirements, including the management of surveys and audits, and upkeep of safety and critical equipment.
  • Manage the dredging and surveying system ensuring uninterrupted delivery of hydrographic data within the fleets existing and growing operational program allowing for expansion.
  • Manage a safe, robust, sustainable and efficient dredger refit and maintenance program/schedule within agreed OPEX and CAPEX budgets, and assist with all other marine plant by coordinating the use of labour and spare parts in a proactive, cost effective manner.
  • Implement and manage the Marine Business Unit's sustainability and decarbonization strategy in alignment with PBPL's Sustainability targets on the dredger and assist with all other marine plant, ensuring continuous sustainability improvements and emissions reductions
  • Provide technical support and leadership to Chief Engineers on the dredger in a collaborative, engaging and effective manner whilst promoting positive engagement with the entire marine crew.
  • Assist and manage into the fleet additional and replacement assets in alignment with the business' current and future needs in collaboration with all parts of the business enabling commercial growth and expansion of services available to market.
  • Comply with the PBPL procurement strategy, including management of contractors and service agreements with suppliers in alignment with the PBPL procurement policy to ensure optimal outcomes and demonstrate the use of best practice.
  • Plan and assist with business cases for major capital expenditure.
  • Contribute to the effective submissions of tenders.
  • Assist with the identification and implementation of new technologies within the survey, dredging and overall marine asset field which will improve efficiency, sustainability and promote new methods in our service delivery to clients.
  • Assist with incident investigations, technical recruitment, crew training, site requirements and maintenance of heavy vehicles as required.
  • Manage and implement strategies to develop a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging a continuous improvement mindset and championing improvements in the dredger, support craft, survey operations, equipment performance and software developments.
  • Embed a strategic asset management approach to manage vessel lifecycle including procurement, new builds and deliveries, ensuring that we have a reliable fleet to deliver our services and maintain our channel

  • You have proven leadership experience, with a focus on employee development, engagement and collaboration.
  • You've already made the transition from seafaring to shore based management and you're ready for your next challenge,
    or you're looking to make that transition now.
  • You take a long term view of marine fleet technical optimisation
  • You have proven experience in embedding a strategic asset management approach to managing vessel/floating asset lifecycles
  • You're experienced in overseeing and managing mandatory systems including Planned Maintenance Systems and dredging/ hydrographic data systems
  • You're passionate about driving technological improvements and efficiencies, and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and quality control improvements
  • You hold (or held) a seafaring engineering qualification
