Full-Time

Total Package $102,760.32 per annum (inclusive of super guarantee)
WALGA (WA Local Government Association) is building a dynamic communications and marketing team for the future.

We're an independent member-based, not-for-profit organisation delivering expertise and support to the WA Local Government sector.


We advocate and influence on behalf of our members and we raise the credibility and profile of the sector with positive marketing and communication to a wide audience.


This is an exciting opportunity to utilise your media and communications experience and join a team that is responsible for amplifying the voice and enhancing the profile and perception of WALGA and the Local Government sector.


You will be an integral part of delivering contemporary internal and external communications advice and content, media relations, key stakeholder relations (including member engagement and government relations), and media and communications support for events.


The Media and Communications Advisor will work with our internal WALGA teams, executive leaders, including the President and CEO, as well as our Local Government Members to provide media and communications support and advice.

  • Develop innovative, engaging and considered proactive and reactive media and communications content to promote WALGA's brand and reputation.
  • Develop engaging content for WALGA's website, social media platforms, including the implementation of a rolling 12 month digital strategy.
  • Develop informative content for internal communications to contribute to information and knowledge sharing, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Monitor traditional and social media and report on relevant stories, emerging and ongoing issues, and provide strategic advice on appropriate media and communications responses.
  • Create content and assist with the production of regular external publications, in both magazine and electronic direct mail format.
  • Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of media and communications strategies across WALGA.
  • Experience working in media and communications as a journalist, or media and communications specialist.
  • Proven experience as a website / content / social media content provider and planner.
  • Experience in management of issues/crisis media and communications and have a preparedness to be on call seven days a week for media inquiries, as required.
  • Experience in digital media management including digital content creation relevant to various channels and audiences.
  • Thorough knowledge of Western Australian media, including key journalists, editors, and news directors.
  • Superior communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and accurately, and present effectively and confidently.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal skills including problem solving, conflict resolution and persuasive negotiation.
