About us


The Department of Communities and Justice delivers legal, court and supervision services to the people of NSW by managing courts and justice services, implementing programs to reduce crime and re offending, managing custodial and community-based correctional services, protecting rights and community standards and advising on law reform and legal matters.


Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce the risk of re-offending and enhance public safety.

It serves a key function of the NSW Justice sector by providing effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community CSNSW also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure that offenders and their families are supported.


About the role


Corrective Services NSW requires an Assistant Centre Administration Support Officer to join a vibrant team in the Shortland Correctional Centre.

You will be responsible for providing Administrative support to a Correctional Centre, and your duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:


  • Customer Service including Visits Telephone Bookings
  • Electronic filing and Archiving
  • General Administrative team tasks including switchboard
  • Arrange daily courier services, mail pickup/delivery, and distribution
  • Weekend Visitor Bookings
  • General data entry
  • Stores and Asset Management
  • Provide support for inmate accounts
  • Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Visits processing
  • Visits bookings
  • All miscellaneous tasks as required in accordance with the capabilities of the role

About the You


As a highly motivated Assistant Centre Administration Support Officer, you will maintain confidentiality at all times, utilise your proven experience and knowledge to meet the demands of this role effectively, and provide high level assistance to the Centre Finance & Administration Manager.

Resilience, high attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to work under pressure are the key attributes to succeed in this fast paced role.

Provide effective and efficient high administration services under mínimal supervision.


Essential requirements:


  • Current driver's licence with willingness and ability to drive throughout NSW
  • Weekend work required (3 weekends per monthrotating rosterday shift)
  • Answer the two pre-screening questions below - we are looking for you to demonstrate your competency in this focus capability.

Describe a situation when you had to deal with a difficult customer. How did you handle the situation?


Target Question 2.
Please describe what you feel is important when working within a team environment. Describe challenges faced and how you overcome the challenges.

Job Notes:

Part of the assessment process includes additional online capability testing, skills testing or work samples in accordance with the Government Sector Employment Act 2013.
