About the role

Grampians Health is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate individuals to join our team as Personal Care Worker trainees, a great opportunity for anyone interested in working in healthcare and gaining a qualification while being paid.

The program will commence on the 18th September 2023 with a 12 month, fixed term
- part time (60 hours per fortnight) contract completing in September 2024.


As a trainee you will work four days a week, one day a week online classroom learning the theoretical component of your new role.

The other three days will be spent putting your learning into practice gaining hands on experience in one of Grampians Health residential care facilities (Ballarat, Horsham, Stawell, Edenhope or Dimboola) while being supported by our dedicated team of nurses and carers.

During the 12 months, there will be allocated practical study blocks required to attend in person at Ballarat or Horsham.


The successful applicants will be enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) through Federation TAFE and on completion will become a qualified Personal Care Worker.

They will have a high degree of flexibility and a willingness to learn and must demonstrate competence in the following behaviours and qualifications:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Evidence of achievement of a minimum level three in Language, Literacy & Numeracy testing
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting would be an advantage
  • Be eligible for Australian Government Apprenticeship Incentive program
  • Meets criteria for eligibility in the Traineeship Certificate III Individual Support

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboard skills with the ability to utilise computer software, particularly use of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Managing work (includes time management) effectively managing one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently

Working environment

  • Ability to work 3 (8 hour) days per week including AM and PM shifts on a Tues/Wed/Thu (first 2 months) and Tues/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun by roster thereafter and 1 day per week 9.00am to 3.30pm (Mon) in the classroom environment
  • Reliable transport & the ability to work from various locations within Grampians Health Ballarat
