Fenner Conveyors, offer fabrication services working in conjunction with the manufacturing team to deliver conveyor belting solutions to our clients which are of the highest standard and quality.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Supervisor on a permanent basis.

This opportunity will see you responsible for supervising qualified tradespersons in the fabrication, welding, repair and assembly of conveyor belting products to specification and quality standards.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Provide proficient leadership and guidance to ensure effective and efficient team performance.
  • Ensure final products delivered on time to budget and agreed specification.
  • Effective and efficient use of materials and other resources under personal control.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to tradesmen in order to provide employee development and the enhancement of skills and knowledge.
  • Developing, implementing and overseeing workplace processes and procedures, including safe work methods
  • Ensure all safety incidents, near misses and hazards are reported and investigated
  • Reports regularly to Manager on workshop performance, resource availability, delays, risks and opportunities
  • Champion meetings daily to ensure the team has knowledge of work in hand, projected work and issues impacting productivity.
  • Identify and assist in implementing process improvement initiatives to reduce cost and lead times, and profitability.
  • Effectively escalate and communicate problems and issues with relevant stakeholders
  • Perform all mechanical tasks including supervising and assisting the TEAM with welding and fabrication tasks to client specifications in accordance with safety and compliance requirements

To be successful in this role you will possess the below:

Key requirements

  • Relevant Boilermaker or Heavy Fabrication Trade Qualifications
  • Significant previous exposure to a heavy fabrication workshop environment with some experience supervising small teams of fabrication trades people
  • Proven ability in planning and managing jobs
  • Pulley fabrication and/or submerged arc welding experience will be highly regarded
  • Commitment to safety with and a focus on quality
  • Sound written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound numeracy skills
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Current/valid Australian manual Driver's license (Heavy Rigid licence desirable but not essential)
  • Forklift licence
  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma, LEAN or KAIZEN, process improvement techniques and tools
  • Relevant leadership or Frontline Management training (Cert. IV or demonstrated equivalent) _desirable but not essential_
