The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team


The Information Management and Business Intelligence (IMBI) section is a part of the Enterprise Strategy and Modernisation Branch within the Organisational Transformation Division.


We are a collaborative and driven team of professionals focused on supporting business with data analytics and visualisation to inform broader organisation policies and operations.

It is an exciting time as the team also works closely with the Election Systems Modernisation program to define the new landscape for the AEC systems and processes.


As part of the team, you also get to see tangible outcomes from your work: most notably the delivery of a federal election and other electoral events and services.


The Opportunity


The Business Intelligence Engagement Officer manages the day-to-day matters relating to the stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering and information management within the Information Management and Business Intelligence Section's Business Intelligence team of the Enterprise Strategy and Modernisation Branch, including participating in section planning and aligning longer term plans with agency goals and objectives.

You will engage with business users to understand their information and data needs. You will identify improvement opportunities and address business needs. Plan and run workshops to improve information and data management practices.


You will assist with project management in line with the agency Enterprise Project Management Office's advice and communicate user requirements to develop reports, identify integration points within the agency's information management framework.


You will communicate effectively and engage with the teams' activities to establish a robust and sustainable business intelligence platform with supporting processes to meet agency's needs for business intelligence and reporting.


This role will also contribute to the modernisation of the AEC through the transformation of a range of technology systems related to both organisational management and election delivery.


To excel you'll have:
Mandatory

  • Proven experience in business engagement especially in data and business analysis. Understanding, developing, and implementing policies, frameworks, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to successfully demonstrate project management and organisational skills, manage and deliver results within time restraints and competing priority.
  • Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.
  • Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical abilities with sound knowledge of change management practices and techniques to enable innovation.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of Commonwealth frameworks, including ICT and information and data management frameworks
Desirable

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in statistics, data science/analytics, mathematics, computer science, economics or similar.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.

  • AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
  • Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.
  • Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain the Negative Vetting 1 security clearance required for this role.
