About the role:


Reporting to the Forensic Accountant, you will contribute to the delivery of EPA's commitments under the Recycling Victoria Circular Economy Policy, meeting the EPA's aim of protecting public health and the environment.

Working within the Operations Division, the Financial Investigator is one of a team of specialists delivering the EPA Victoria Fraud Prevention Program.

The Program is led by the Forensic Accountant as part of the overall Forensic Accounting Function.

The Forensic Accounting Function operates three streams with the Financial Investigator who assists and undertakes financial analysis to support each stream:

  • Financial waste crime investigation,
  • Financial investigation and
  • Fraud prevention program.

Duties:


  • Assist in the triage and review of the detection outputs produced by the fraud prevention program.
  • Assist with financial analysis to support each stream.
  • Produce forensic reports to address potential EPA risks and financial investigations.
  • Support the Forensic Accountant in implementing EPA's fraud prevention program.
  • Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Skills and experience:


  • Relevant diploma or tertiary qualification in finance or equivalent
  • Experience in conducting financial criminal investigations.
  • Highly competent in forensic report writing in an organised chronological manner, correlating points of potential proof to present a cohesive case.
  • Understanding of organisational structures (sole traders, partnerships, companies, trusts)
  • Hold and maintain a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 or base line security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position.
  • Experience in law enforcement, intelligence, or regulatory function in financial crime.
