About the Team


Consisting of underwriters across Australia, the Professional Indemnity team makes up a key component of the wider AIG Australia Financial Lines business unit.

The Financial Lines function plays a major part in AIG Australia's market offering servicing clients across the entire business spectrum from SMEs to large multinational operations.


About the role


AIG's underwriters develop insurance solutions that address the exposures of companies and individuals, and embody AIG's tradition of innovation, bringing to market ground-breaking insurance solutions for our changing world.

AIG's underwriters help to find insurance solutions for risks from a range of areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, Multinational Clients and High Net Worth individuals.


In this role you will be reporting to the Head of Financial Lines, Australia and helping to contribute to the ongoing success of AIG Australia.

You will contribute to the growth and profit of the Financial Lines business unit by underwriting new and renewal business, developing, and maintaining relationships with existing and new brokers, ensuring ongoing visibility of AIG in the market, and executing on agreed strategies.


What you need to know:


Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Head of Financial Lines, Australia and CEO, Australia to support and implement marketing and distribution strategies for your assigned sector.
  • Work closely with Head of Financial Lines, Australia and CEO, Australia to deliver the following, but not limited to; production reporting, renewal and new business strike rates, rate reporting, salesforce pipeline for renewal and new business, market activities, being involved in minor line profit studies.
  • Ensure credit control (u/cash and aged debtors) are managed to AIG expectations.
  • Lead, mentor and train Underwriters to enhance team's performance.
  • Supervise the team effectively and ensure they operate within the appropriate level of authority and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Perform regular quality control / audits of underwriting staff in order to validate compliance with underwriting policies, tools, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Identify technical and professional development needs within team and ensure career development plans are initiated.
  • Empower the team, motivate others, and champion diversity.
  • Collaborate with other Practice Lead's to provide a unified AIG Financial Lines offering where relevant.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on level of authority.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the global and local macroeconomic/geo and sociopolitical environment to determine their effect on current accounts and potential new business opportunities.
  • Represent AIG at client and broker functions without supervision as necessary/appropriate.
  • UW Referral point and UW authority holder.

  • Proven experience in relevant professional experience.
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor others.
  • A sound understanding of the Professional Indemnity environment globally and locally.
  • Proficient level expertise of MS Office suite including programming capability in the same.
