Conduct hearing assessments to collect data for The Australian Eye and Ear Health Survey - *regular domestic travel required*THE ROLE- Salary Package: From $70,536 - $76,022 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading- Appointment Type: Full-Time, 1 year fixed term- Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Role


The Research Assistant will play an important role in supporting the Macquarie University Hearing team, in the development and conduct of the ear health component of The Australian Eye and Ear Health Survey.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with conducting hearing assessments for the ear health component of the Australian Eye and Ear Health Survey.
  • Working with the Eye and Ear Health Survey Project Officers, support the execution of the project to meet project milestones.
  • Contribute to the organisation and logístical arrangements of site visits, including arranging accommodation and travel and support other project activities such as participant recruitment
  • Assist with administering participant questionnaires and documenting responses during onsite visits.
  • Contribute to the production of participant reports by gathering relevant data, data cleansing and providing summary information to include in feedback reports.


Regular travel (3.5 weeks out of a 6-week period, on an ongoing basis) is required for this position as hearing assessments are conducted in local, regional and remote site locations.

About You

You will be a motivated and driven individual with a commitment to contributing to high quality research.

Ideally you will be familiar with the human ethics guidelines and hold experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology including patient recruitment, working on epidemiological surveys and/or clinical trials.


Ability to effectively, and in a culturally sensitive manner, communicate and work with local communities and organisations is key to this role.

Specific role requirements

This position requires frequent domestic travel (including rural and remote Australia) for approximately 3.5 weeks duration every 6 weeks.

This position requires you to comply with occupational screening, assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie University health requirements.
