The Assistant Underwriter efficiently and effectively handles dedicated underwriting enquiries and tasks, whilst maintaining strict underwriting standards and processes within authority limits.

the assistant Underwriter, Commercial Underwriting reports to Commercial Underwriting Manager. this is a permanent full time position based in Melbourne.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Enter submissions, quotes and bound policies in our underwriting system.
  • Undertake research activities, as directed by underwriters, for additional underwriting information from internet or other external sources.
  • Maintain accurate data records.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of underwriting quotation documentation as directed.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports.
  • Assist in the resolution of outstanding premium receivable issues, as may be directed.
  • Conduct general duties associated with day to day underwriting operations.
  • Be proactive in improving processes and communication with all internal and external stakeholders.

Role Requirements & Skills

  • Experience working in the financial services industry welcome but not required.
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, finance or relevant field
- welcome not essential.

  • Willingness to learn and appetite to grow with the business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and attention to details skills.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and contribute as part of a team, with the ability to work autonomously when required.
