The opportunity

The Administrative Law and Policy Specialist is responsible for providing leadership, expertise and advice on more complex matters involving administrative law and revenue laws.


This role is suited to people who hold a degree in law, economics, commerce or equivalent (or substantial progress towards one) or have considerable work experience in policy and legislative disciplines.

Reporting to the Senior Policy Specialist (IRAP), you will be responsible for:

  • Policy analysis in an administrative law context.
  • The development and interpretation of laws and policies for revenue administration.
  • Assisting with more complex complaints (including referrals from the Victorian Ombudsman) concerning revenue administration, human rights, discrimination, and privacy matters.
  • Other corporate functions, including delegations, privacy, and informationmanagement.
  • Assisting with more complex information requests and other responsibilities of the SRO under the _Freedom of Information Act 1982_ (FOI Act) and formal disputes arising out of these matters.

Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing policy proposals and legislation, preferably in a taxation or commercial environment.
  • High level communication (written, interpersonal and verbal), analytical, and problemsolving skills, including sound judgement and the demonstrated ability to negotiate and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with proven ability to manage priorities to meet tight statutory or operational deadlines, and to work effectively independently and in a team with a high level of personal initiative, integrity, and accountability.
