About Us


The School of Indigenous Knowledges (SIK) is a multi-disciplinary school based within the College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences that aims to introduce students to Indigenous Knowledges across a range of topics including health sciences, education, physical sciences, and social sciences.


We challenge the notion that Indigenous Studies should be purely a social science discipline 'about' our culture(s) and politics, and instead aim to teach students knowledge that has been generated Indigenous peoples.

The Role


The position provides meaningful contributions to the School, College, University, and profession through teaching, research, and service in the field of Indigenous Knowledges.

Utilising an innovative and engaging curriculum, topics such as Two-Way Science, Indigenous Wellbeing, and Indigenous History and Contemporary Culture will be examined.

Further, there is an expectation to perform a range of administrative and service function tasks within the College and across the University.


The role also provides the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from the world-class Aboriginal Culture, Education and Equity (ACCE) Research Lab, should this be of interest to the successful applicant.


On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Design and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate units and ensure they are in accordance with the teaching and learning plans of the school.
  • Prepare and deliver classes in a range of facetoface, online, and blended modes, undertaking lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical classes, and student cultural immersion activities.
  • Mark and moderate assessments and provide meaningful feedback to students.
  • Participate in curriculum review and renewal at the School and College levels.
  • Supervise honours and/or postgraduate research from proposal to examination; and examine honours and/or postgraduate research theses.
  • Engage in independent and/or team research to produce quality and impactful research outcomes.
What you'll bring to this role

  • Completed (or currently undertaking) a Higher Degree Research program or have equivalent experience in Indigenous Knowledges, which could include Indigenous Science, Humanities, or Indigenous Health, which will position you to teach into a broad range of units within the School of Indigenous Knowledges.
  • Ability to work under broad direction and take initiative in undertaking responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Indigenous content including Indigenous theory and methods of knowledge production, with the ability to promote innovative teaching practices.
  • Ability to work sensitively and in a culturally safe manner.
  • Capacity to engage with the community to promote University programs in Indigenous Knowledges.
