Project Lead - Rail - Signals and Systems

We are looking for a Project Lead to successfully deliver the project portfolio for systems, signalling and communications by managing the project delivery teams.


About the role:


Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 17 mines across the Pilbara via 2000km of track.

With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 234 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.4 kilometres in length with 40 trains operating per day.

In 2019, we launched the world's first automated heavy-haul rail network - named AutoHaul - capable of moving about one million tonnes of iron ore a day.


This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual to provide project management expertise to ensure allocated projects are to be undertaken in a safe, sustainable, timely, fit for purpose, and cost-effective manner.


Reporting to the Superintendent Delivery Rail Systems, you will:

  • Ensure the safe delivery of your assigned sustaining capital rail projects
  • Participate in the development of detailed project scopes, whilst ensuring that effort is focused on delivering sustainable value for allocated tasks/projects
  • Forecast and manage rail capital budget
  • Define and communicate the project business case and ensuring that effort is focused on delivering sustainable value
  • Support the development and manage a small project team
  • Ensure that projects comply with and are delivered to Rio Tinto standards

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Commitment to champion the Rio Tinto values of care, courage and curiosity
  • Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related Commercial disciplines
  • Project management certification or advance project management training
  • Significant experience in project management and/or business or process improvement
  • Knowledge of Project based software products and Microsoft Office Suite
  • A current WA Driver's license

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Rail experience
  • Intermediateadvanced knowledge in Microsoft Office suite

Where you'll be working:


This role is based in Perth, at our head office in Central Park, and working Monday to Friday (Karratha-based is also possible).

We want you to have a great work/life balance, so the days, hours and location of work are flexible (including working from home).

You will be required to travel to the Pilbara to support our stakeholders on an as required basis.
