ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:


The Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre Incorporated (SHNC) is a community based and managed organisation, providing programs and services to enhance well-being, community involvement and connectedness, for those in the local community and surrounding suburbs.


SHNC was founded in 1978 at the initiative of local residents and was registered as an incorporated body in 1996.

The premises are owned and maintained by the City of Boroondara. The day-to-day management is overseen by an elected voluntary Board of Governance.


ABOUT THE ROLE:


The Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre seeks a Centre Manager to undertake the leadership, management and development role for the organisation.

The role will manage a small team to oversee all activities and Centre operations, in line with our guiding aims, the Board of Governance's strategic decisions, service agreements with funding bodies and applicable legislation.


  • Hours_: Part time, 0.7 FTE (approximately 26 hours per week)
  • Classification_: As per Neighbourhood Houses and Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement 2016, Modern Award (SCHADS) SACS

Specialist skills

  • Effective skills in leadership, community building, time management and priority setting.
  • Oversee daytoday financial matters and accountability including reports to funding bodies, preparation for financial audits, grant acquittals.
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget and program budget (with the SHNC Accountant and Board Treasurer)
  • Plan and oversee programs and events responsive to community needs and evaluate programs accordingly.
  • Implement SHNC's strategic plan and identify projects that align with the strategic plan.
  • Develop, implement and review policy and procedures in conjunction with the Board of Governance.
  • Initiate submissions for funding to achieve strategic goals and business plans as required.
  • Effective skills in IT, marketing and promotion.

Management skills

  • Experience managing staff, volunteers, facilities and resources.
  • Highly developed skills in problem solving and managing a complex workload.
  • Business planning and project management skills.
  • Provide support to the Board of Governance by regular reporting, advice on programs and projects and other relevant information.
  • Ensure the effective promotion of SHNC and its programs through a range of publicity materials.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Innovative and forward thinker.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funding bodies, members and external organisations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Experience in community development or related field.
  • Experience in management and administration.
  • Proven experience in advocacy and with establishing and maintaining links with appropriate government bodies, networks, and other agencies.
  • A postsecondary qualification in a relevant area will be highly regarded.

  • Ability to organise and prioritise tasks, work to tight timelines and constantly appraise organisational systems and implement improvements where appropriate.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage the financial and governance requirements to ensure effective and efficient compliance and accountability to all stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in promoting successful teamwork with staff and volunteers.
  • Personal flexibility to manage working in a rapidly changing community environment.
