About the role:

Peabody Energy are currently seeking a
Manager Environment at our South Brisbane Head Office.

Reporting to the
Senior Environmental Manager the scope of your role will be to provide technical support for Environmental Strategy development and Compliance across the Australian platform.

You will be a part of a growing team where you will consistently aim to develop, implement, and maintain Peabody environmental standards.


Duties will include:


  • Assist with Environmental Strategy and Annual Planning
  • Assist with Department Resourcing and Budget Control
  • Legislative Compliance Tracking and Reporting
  • Coordinate annual NPI reporting
  • Coordinate annual ABS reporting
  • Support the implementation and ongoing refinement of Peabody Environmental standards
  • Environmental Incident Support and/or Management
  • Support ERC/RCE Development and Lodgment for existing sites
  • Provide technical environmental support to sites
  • Assist with the Coordination Internal Audit & Assurance Programs
  • Maintain Corporate Legal & Approvals Register
  • Provide technical support as required to operations

About you:


  • Exposure and experiences in a similar position within mining or heavy industries
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science
  • You will develop and implement strategies that establish, maintain, and improve relationships with stakeholder communities and individuals
  • You will have a minimum 10 years+ post graduate experience.
  • A detailed understanding of state & federal government policy development processes preferred.

Job Summary:


  • Responsible for planning and coordinating project engineering feasibility studies, mine plans and mine designs for underground and surface mines as well as providing support as needed for new mine construction activity and operations of existing mines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Missions and Values
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
  • Conduct all required environmental monitoring and reporting
  • Conduct internal environmental inspections, develop action plans and implement corrective actions to maintain regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate proper handling, storage and disposal of all waste or recyclable materials
  • Develop and initiate environmental improvement measures for the site
  • Coordinate with applicable government agencies on inspections and follow up measures
  • Coordinate with Americas Environmental Services staff on significant environmental permitting needs for the mine operation
  • Track and submit all data for internal reporting purposes
  • Perform permit maintenance activities including minor revisions as needed by Operations
  • Provide supervision and/or guidance to coworkers and consultants that assist with completion of these duties
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years of environmental engineering experience required

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
