Division Responsibilities
The Legal and Assurance Division includes the Department of Health's internal legal practice

and delivers legal and assurance services across the wide spectrum of the Department's

activities.

Legal and Assurance Division comprises the following Branches:

  • Corporate, Commercial and Litigation Branch;
  • Legal Advice and Legislation Branch; and
  • Corporate Assurance Branch.

Branch Responsibilities
The Corporate Assurance Branch has responsibility for several governance support functions

including assurance, audit, business planning, risk management, project management and

senior governance committee support. In addition, the Branch maintains the Departments

Assurance Framework, Project Management Framework, and Risk Management Framework.

Together, these functions, frameworks and documents form the natural foundation for an

integrated assurance function that sits within the Corporate Assurance Branch and supports

business areas across the Department.


Section Responsibilities
The Program Assurance, Planning and Risk (PAPR) section has a diverse scope across

multiple different assurance functions. We regularly engage with senior executives across

the department to be trusted partners in providing assurance over program delivery, uplift

in risk management capability, and identify gaps in existing governance practices. We also

have responsibility for the management of two senior governance committees the Program

Assurance Committee (PAC) and the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC). The Section is

instrumental in building risk capability across the Department and assists business areas by

providing advice on Risk Management and guidance with completing risk assessments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Foster collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to
support members of the Department to deliver against strategic priorities.**
  • Lead
a program of Risk Management maturity uplift across the department.**
  • Lead
senior executive reporting on Risk Management activities, and identify areas

for improvement in how risk is communicated.***- Identify and implement areas for ongoing improvement across Risk Management

capability both within the section and across the broader department.***- Support other team functions, including program assurance, and business planning

as required.***
