About the Assignment


The H&S Advisor provides specialist workplace occupational safety and health expertise, to assist WA Offshore Drilling & completions team in achieving a strong Health and Safety culture and meets regulatory requirements.


To be considered, applicants must have:

  • Experience in a similar role (Offshore O&G Drilling Projects)
  • Be currently residing in Western Australia
  • Recognized qualification in safety, health and environment or related fields
  • Current & Valid OGUK Medical, TBOSIET, CAEBS
  • Hydrocarbon industry experience

Tasks include:


  • Monitor activities to ensure WA Offshore Drilling & completions are carried out in accordance with Santos offshore facilities safety case requirements and the Santos Management System (SMS).
  • Lead/participate in H&S audits for MODUs, vessels, and 3rd party contractors.
  • Provide support to the WA Offshore Drilling & Completions managers and HSS Team leader, to ensure that improvement measures are implemented if HSS performance is found to be noncompliant.
  • Assist with the development of and/or organization of appropriate safety training and hazard/risk reduction programs as required.
  • Monitor incident investigations and inspections/audits to satisfactory closure through tracking close out reports.
  • Develop and review MOCs to support Drilling & completions requirements.
  • Participate in HAZID, and other risk assessment workshops.
  • Monitor incident database and quality of incident/investigation reports and bring to the attention of the relevant Manager/Superintendent/Engineer any identified nonconformances.
  • Participate in/facilitate investigations of significant incidents on as required.
  • Write, review and assist in revising HSS specific procedures as appropriate.
  • Liaise with the Drilling Contractor to ensure that additional Safety Case approvals are gained where required.
  • Assist in the reporting of notifiable incidents or dangerous occurrences to Legislative bodies / regulators.
  • Conduct other duties as directed by HSE Manager, HSS Team Leader

  • Provide support and guidance to Santos contract owner in assuring contractors performing works for Santos & meet company contractor management requirements throughout the scope of work.

About You:


  • Significant years HSE experience of which the majority has been within the hydrocarbon processing industry.
  • Experience working on MODUs, and in remote areas.
  • Experience in developing bridging and interface documents as well as emergency response plans.
  • Capacity to operate both independently, using initiative and selfdirection, and as a team member to produce consistently highquality work.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to manage a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and coaching skills, with effective oral and written communication to both internal and external audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of Australian (Commonwealth, State and Territory) safety and environmental legislation (OPGGS Regulations etc.) and implementation by the relevant Government agencies.
  • Have good knowledge of quality and safety management principles
  • Causal Analysis Investigation Training i.e. TapRoot.
  • Internal / External Auditor training.
  • Report writing.

Mandatory Tickets / Quals / Certs

  • Tertiary qualifications in safety, health, or related fields.
