The Geelong Clinic

DBT Group Facilitator, Part time 0.4 FTE

An exciting opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced Psychologist/Social worker/Occupational Therapist/Registered Nurse to join The Geelong Clinic as a group facilitator for the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Day Program.

Located on the fringe of Geelong's CBD, The Geelong Clinic is a 73 bed private mental health hospital recognized for its provision of dedicated psychiatric care since 1998.

Employees enjoy free parking on site, an employee assistance program and scope for further career enhancement.

The DBT Group Facilitator role involves co-facilitation of the DBT Skills Group which runs as a full day group program twice weekly.

There will also be group planning between modules, and regular supervision with your co-facilitator and the Allied Health Manager.

The role may also require you to provide cover across other day program/inpatient group programs at The Geelong Clinic, and you will work in a multidisciplinary team based approach supported by other experienced mental health professionals.

The DBT Skills Group is suited for individuals with long-standing personality and emotional difficulties, in particular, those with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or Borderline Personality Traits (e.g.

difficulty regulating emotions).

The program aims to address patterns of maladaptive behaviours, including self-harm and suicidal behaviours, in addition to thoughts and beliefs that interfere with quality of life.

The program is skills based with the aim of teaching participants alternative behaviours to manage emotions, relationships and crises effectively, and does not offer individual therapy to its participants.

Participants are patients of a The Geelong Clinic affiliated psychiatrist and are strongly encouraged to engage in their own private therapy in addition to attending the skills group.
