State Manager

What can you expect?


Primary focus (80%) for the role is to represent Mercer in the relevant State, across all lines of business or specific Wealth segments depending on the State; and provide holistic office and / or team leadership to drive engagement, collaboration and strong client outcomes.

The role will also support other Growth and Commercial acceleration activity for Mercer and MMC nationally (20%).

We will count on you to:

  • Represent Mercer Wealth and MMC in the external market to drive brand awareness and expand solution penetration, across lines of business and MMC Operating Companies as appropriate
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and operational performance of Mercer in the State through active partnership with Client Managers and PLT client and function owners
  • Develop / contribute to Mercer's longterm business strategy for the State and provide direction and focus to engage staff to deliver agreed business objectives
  • Have oversight of products and solutions delivered to Statebased, or other relevant clients, to ensure quality of service and high levels of client satisfaction
  • Build strategic, executivelevel relationships with key clients and client stakeholders as a Client Manager, to build client satisfaction and establish Mercer as a valued partner
  • Monitor competitors, industry and local trends
  • Lead, manage, inspire and motivate high performance across teams in the State through informal 'matrix' engagement across local Mercer lines of business
  • Pursue product and service enhancements and new solution development relevant to the client base, through strong collaboration with other internal stakeholders

What you need to have:


  • Significant experience at an executive level in a similar role in a financial or professional services environment managing C-Suite level clients
  • Building strong relationships to establish and drive productive, enduring relationship with clients and client engagement teams
  • Advanced conflict resolution and business acumen skills
  • Expertlevel knowledge in all aspects of superannuation and other services provided including but not limited to strategy, market trends, the regulatory environment
  • Advanced knowledge in areas related to the broader Mercer business and MMC operating companies
