Who are we looking for?


Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Communications Officer - Business Development to join Office of the Vice-President, Business Development Portfolio, Chancellery Division.


The Business Development Communications Officer is a member of the Office of the Vice-President (Business Development), and works closely with the Vice-President (Business Development) (VPBD) and the leadership teams of the Offices of Advancement, Industry Engagement, and Alumni and Corporate Events.

This position drives strategic and operational communications and profiling activities for the Business Development Portfolio.

This position is also required to establish and maintain close working relationships with QUT Marketing and Communications including the QUT Media Team, Government Relations and Protocol, and with relevant senior leaders and officers of the Chancellery Division and faculties.

About the Chancellery Division


Chancellery Division is responsible for strategy, including Indigenous strategy, government relations and policy, assurance and risk, international, marketing and communications, and business development.

The Chancellery Division is led by the Vice-Chancellor and President.


About the Business Development Portfolio
The Business Development Portfolio provides university-wide coordination and stewardship of QUT's engagement with industry, philanthropic and alumni communities.

Led by the Vice-President (Business Development), the following areas fall within the Portfolio's responsibility:


  • Office of the Vice-President (Business Development);
  • Industry Engagement;
  • Advancement; and
  • Alumni, Venues and Events.

What you need to succeed


Your expertise and initiative, combined with your ability to work as an excellent team player will be vital to your success in this role.


You will demonstrate:

  • Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a degree in communications, marketing, media or a related discipline, in conjunction with at least four years relevant work experience.
  • Proven track record in identifying opportunities and effectively profiling activities, successes and/or events to multiple audiences through a wide range of platforms.
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability to write effectively and persuasively for a wide range of audiences.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment as part of a high performing team, and provide excellence in service provision.
