Careers NSW is a program announced by the Premier of NSW in March 2021 and is designed to provide career guidance and advice to all NSW residents at any stage in their career.


Careers NSW provides a wraparound service to:

  • Provide tailored career guidance
  • Identify educational pathways and qualifications that match clients to the skills they need to enter or
progress in their career

  • Connect clients with Industry Experts currently employed in the industries they are looking to enter
and can provide insight into the skills clients will need to succeed.


About the role


The role will undertake and deliver a range of data analytics and visualisation tasks within Careers NSW to support and improve service delivery, undertake data analysis and reporting to inform strategies and decision-making processes.

The work will contribute to the development and implementation of technological solutions to extract and analyse large and diverse data sets.

The role will extract and manipulate data from multiple sources and undertake data validation to ensure data integrity and accuracy is retained when developing reports.

The role will also make recommendations to improve the availability, quality, reliability, and security of corporate data.


About you
These will be key in succeeding in the role with the support of the Senior Project Officer.


Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or relevant field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in SQL/Oracle or Azure databases, including data modeling, complex queries, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced skills in data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau to create intuitive and visually appealing dashboards.
  • Strong knowledge of query languages like SQL to extract data and perform complex analysis.
  • Familiarity with database architecture concepts and best practices for data security and integrity.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into effective data solutions and present clear insights to different audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities in data.
  • Basic knowledge of Python and Excel VBA is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Responsibilities:


  • Develop and maintain databases, ensuring their integrity, security, and performance.
  • Execute complex queries on SQL/Oracle or Azure databases to extract, transform, and analyze data efficiently.
  • Create interactive visualizations and dashboards using tools like Power BI and Tableau to present actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with business teams to understand their data analysis needs and provide customized solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in data analysis processes and propose innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure data quality and analysis accuracy
