DENTAL ASSISTANT / RECEPTIONIST
PRIOR EXPERIENCE AS A DENTAL ASSISTANT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

General

  • Contribute to the successful running of the Business by providing a high standard of service to patients and dental professionals.
  • Comply with of all statutory and regulatory legislations and standards in the development of the duties associated to this Position.
  • Ensure high level of quality and safety is achieved by developing and implementing appropriate quality and safety guidelines, procedures, processes and practices in line with the Business' objectives, vision and mission.
  • Implement best practice principles and work cooperatively with dental professionals to achieve better outcomes.
  • Promote continuous improvement and cost savings by encouraging innovation and best practice.

Specific

  • Provide support to the Clinic in all aspects associated with the provision of dental services to patients.
  • Prepare surgery room(s) to enable the Dental Practitioner to conduct clinical procedures
  • Chairside assisting during clinical procedures.
  • Prepare equipment, materials and instruments for procedures.
  • Monitor and assist in the care and comfort of the patient.
  • Maintain high standards of infection control practices.
  • Maintain and file patient records.
  • Instrument cleaning and sterilisation.
  • Prepare laboratory work orders.
  • Assist with radiology imaging activities as required.
  • Stock control and replenishment of supplies.
  • Carry out filing, administrative, clerical activities and general office duties inherent to the position.
  • Undertake receptionist activities including but not limited to greeting patients and visitors, answering the telephone, scheduling patient's appointments, writing correspondence, sending recall notices, handling the patient's financial transactions and general office duties, as required.

  • Obligation to always follow the Company's established infection prevention and control policies and procedures as part of your contract of employment with the Company. Failure to follow infection prevention and control policies and procedures may be grounds for disciplinary action and/or termination of employment contract.
  • Obligation to report any infectious status that you may have if it is considered that it places others at risk. If you have an infectious disease, you are responsible to seek appropriate medical care from a qualified doctor to manage the infectious condition and who would determine whether you are capable of performing the Dental Assisting tasks without putting patients or other workers at risk. You are also responsible to undergo regular medical followup and comply with all aspects of informed clinical management regarding your condition.
  • Obligation to report any known potential exposures to blood and/or body substances.
  • Obligation to follow the Company's policies and procedures associated with vaccination against infectious diseases and maintain your personal vaccination records.
  • Obligation to report to the Company if you are pregnant.
  • Respect and accept the patient, recognising all cultural and social diversity. Be tolerant of behaviour you may not understand and be pleasant and empathetic even though the patient may be irritable and demanding.
  • Take due care in looking after the needs of the patient and alert the dentist of any signs of distress.
  • Follow the ethical standards of dentistry in dealing with patients, other dentists and the public in general.
  • Carry out duties and accept responsibilities in compliance with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Acts and Regulations, associated legislation and the Company's policies and procedures.
  • Hold in the strictest confidence all things heard or seen in the surgery and any information regarding patients and/or their treatment.
