    Job description:
  • Provide authoritative advice and expertise to clients and staff of the Southern Registry regarding court procedures, processes and practices. Provide effective and efficient supervision and coordination of the human, financial and physical resources of the Southern Registry.

Hours per fortnight:

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.


Duties:


  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the staff of the Southern Registry in the day to day court business and perform statutory functions of the various divisions of the court.
  • Manage the financial and physical resources of the Southern Registry in accordance to the strategic plans set in place.
  • Ensure the provision of an effective and efficient client service to customers of the Court and resolve complex operational issues as they occur.
  • In conjunction with Magistrates, ensure the implementation of all instructions concerning the coordination and allocation of court business in the Southern Registry for prompt disposition of cases and an effective use of judicial resources.
  • Manage the alternative dispute resolution program in the Southern Registry by:
  • Monitoring, auditing and general oversight of the management of arrangements for mediation and conciliation services.
  • Undertaking complex conciliation/mediation conferences in minor civil claims, civil claims, directions hearings and organising taxation of costs.
  • Provision of advice and support to other similar roles within the Magistrates Court as necessary.
  • In the absence of other Managers, provide coordination and supervision of staff of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania.
  • Provide specialised authoritative advice relating to the legislation and the functions of the Criminal and Civil jurisdictions to legal practitioners, internal stakeholders and other users of the Court in accordance with Division policy and the Departmental Service Charter.
  • Manage and lead the staff of the Southern Registry by:
  • assist with the provision of effective leadership in managing the acceptance and implementation of change.
- motivating and guiding team members to deliver a high level of service to the clients of the court (both internal and external).

  • Responsible for the integrity of the Court's computerised case management databases including ensuring:
  • timely and ongoing training of staff members.
- the quality of data entry processes; and
- timely and accurate auditing processes.

  • Perform the statutory duties of:
  • Deputy District Registrar of the Civil Division.
  • Deputy District Registrar of the Administrative Appeals Division.
  • Deputy Clerk of Petty Sessions.

Desirable Requirements:


  • Possession of a recognised qualification in conciliation, mediation or other relevant field and/or relevant postsecondary or tertiary level qualifications in Court Administration or Management, or the ability and preparedness to undergo required training.
