What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Data Analyst, Professional Standards.


The successful applicant will have a desire to analyse data, draw out meaningful insights and articulate their findings through the production of easy to understand reports for the AFP executive and stakeholders.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

This role is based in Canberra and cannot be performed remotely. Applicants are expected to be based in the ACT or willing to relocate.

What will you do?


As a Data Analyst in Professional Standards, you will be responsible for the collection and analysis of data from a range of systems, including the production of regular and ad-hoc reporting.


The day to day activities may include but are not limited to:
Using AFP systems to access, search, map and prepare data from a variety of sources.

Interpreting data, identifying inconsistencies and working with stakeholders to resolve them.

Creating data-driven insights and reports to explore complex business problems.

Identifying trends and preparing concise reports of findings from the data.

Communicating key information from the data verbally, visually (including the creation of dashboards) and in written material to stakeholders.

Collaborating with key stakeholders to guide best practice data collection and analysis.

Improving capability in data analysis processes through ongoing development and learning opportunities.


This role predominantly involves working independently and as part of a team to extract, evaluate and communicate data and analytical information.

The team is comprised of other data analysts who will guide and mentor the successful applicant.

Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated strong data, conceptual and analytical skills.
Demonstrated experience designing reports with the end user in mind.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
