Description
AFRY is expanding services and geographic coverage into Australia. We are therefore looking for Consultants interested in being part of a small but rapidly growing team. The team will initially be based in our growing Melbourne office.

While our office is being established in Melbourne, staff will be closely supported and trained primarily by our UK and SE Asia teams, as well as the wider AFRY network.

About the role

As a new colleague on entry level, you are responsible for undertaking analysis into energy markets and will support AFRY's consulting activities for a wide range of clients including major financial investors, international developers, utilities, government, and regulatory bodies.

You as part of project teams to support our clients in answering the commercial and strategy challenges they face and will perform tasks under the direction of Project Managers and Project Supervisors.

Our growing Australian team specialises in all aspects of the Australian energy transition. Our projects will relate to the energy sector and all aspects of the energy transition in the Australian market.

Typical projects may focus on strategic and commercial advice, decarbonisation analyses and strategy; assessments of energy markets, policies, and regulations; market and commercial due diligence related to energy sector transactions, model power systems and markets, energy technology cost analysis and projections.

Primary responsibilities

  • You will conduct research on a range of energy topics e.g. energy markets, renewable technologies, energy regulatory and policy, business and commercial assessments; derive inputs for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative & qualitative analysis and strong analytical and numerical skills (as demonstrated though e.g. degree results, academic projects/theses, etc.). This includes the ability to pay attention to detail and use MS Excel proficiently. Coding skills, e.g. Python, MS SQL or VBA, are an advantage.
  • Reportwriting is a core part of our work and so we are also looking for the ability to explain complex information in a clear and logical way, using both MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • You will contribute to proposals and other sales material and where possible
  • You will work within the Australian market and Australian clients and also international clients with an interest in the Australian market. You will also be expected to collaborate with other AFRY offices around the world to support both the business and your own development.
  • As your knowledge and capability grow you will contribute to report and slidebased deliverables, and present these to clients.

Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in management consulting and energy, with a numerical, economics or financial background either from education or practice.
  • Virtually all the work we do requires teamwork, so if you have good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work well with others within a project team and wider office environment you will fit in well.
  • You will be required to work in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, so you will need to be able to think for yourself, be proactive, be a selfstarter, and have a businessoriented mindset.
  • No prior experience in the energy industry is needed but analysts must show a clear interest in the energy and management consulting sectors. If you have an understanding of the Australian energy market dynamics (including any experience with market models and market analytics, incl. energy market modelling software or tools) and energy regulatory environment & policy, this is a definite advantage.
  • Our new joiners typically are university graduates and may bring some initial work experience (up to 12 years) and often have Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or Engineering from a leading university or have relevant experience working for a company in the power industry.

We offer a competitive salary, a performance-related bonus scheme, and a strong range of benefits, in a friendly international working environment with a wide variety of interesting and challenging projects.

If we think you could be a good fit for the organisation, you will be invited to an interview.
