We currently have an office in Adelaide, Australia but our team is currently spread across Australia, United States, New Zealand and Canada and we are growing rapidly

We're looking for an experienced Quality Assurance & Automation leader to support the growth of our business.


The Position


The Manager, Quality & Automation Engineering oversees staffing and overall team health of the HappyCo Quality & Automation Engineering function.

They are responsible for empowering and managing a data-driven and automated quality assurance approach across HappyCo's product teams. They are customer obsessed, and relentlessly drive the quality assurance process to the left of the software development cycle. This position requires a well-organized, experienced QA leader able to work independently while demonstrating a strong understanding of automation testing within software development


Week by Week

During your first 1-2 weeks you will:

  • Get to know our leadership, culture, and values
  • Complete our HappyCo orientation and onboarding program
  • Onboard with the QA Engineering Team and implement your first test case automation
  • Familiarize yourself with our products, systems and tools
  • Read our favorite industry primers
  • Attend your first Company Wide Meeting (occurring fortnightly)

During your first 3-6 weeks you will:

  • Get acquainted with our different departments
  • Identify and plan your first process improvement
  • Adopt regular cadences with your direct reports

During your first 3-6 months and beyond you will:

  • Implement your first "shift quality to the left" initiative
  • Implement a holistic data driven approach to Quality Management across all product teams
  • Refine quality scorecard metrics across all our product lines
  • Identify opportunities to reduce testing time and effort by automating repeatable tests

What you could expect day-to-day:


  • Work with a distributed workforce across Australia and the Americas
  • Manage a team of QA / Automation Engineers
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering Leadership to ensure continuous delivery of reliable products that delight our customers
  • Conduct exploratory testing and risk analysis for complex features, e.g., those that span across platforms or teams

What we think you need to be successful:

  • 3+ years of people management experience, with a track record of upskilling team members
  • 5+ years' experience in previous QA roles and experience in automating test cases in web, API and ideally mobile products
  • Some software development experience, such as in SQL or Python scripting
  • A customer obsessed mindset
  • Ability to identify changes to tools and processes in order to support growth of the business
  • Experience in designing appropriate automated load and performance testing suites
