About the role


We have a great opportunity for an experienced and passionate Payroll professional to join our friendly, fast paced & dynamic payroll team, within the Organisational Development team.

You will be responsible for managing Council's complex payroll and HRIS systems (CHRIS 21) for approximately one 1000 employees.

Experience within CHRIS 21 is essential as this role will be responsible for system upgrades, implementation of STP Phase 2 and other process improvements. You will also be involved in the fortnightly payroll end to end processing. You will require high-level problem-solving abilities to determine corrective actions required to resolve complex payroll transactions and irregularities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality payroll services. This includes developing, implementing, and administering strategic online and other electronic tools to support the needs of the business.


About you

  • Experience in management of a complex Payroll system within CHRIS 21/iChris essential for this role
  • Relevant qualifications in related field along with demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience delivering Payroll or Human Resource related services. Alternatively, lesser formal qualifications in combination with extensive relevant skills knowledge and experience in the delivery of Payroll related Human Resources or Organisational Development services will be considered.
  • Ability to interpret Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Federal and State legislation along with advanced knowledge of taxation legislation
  • Competence in the research, development and implementation of HR/OD policies and strategies, with scope to support/lead projects
  • Ability to work as an effective Team Leader including planning and organisational skills to manage workloads and meet deadlines
  • Advanced skills in MS Office products, particularly Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including conflict and grievance resolution techniques, with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out system administration tasks and system modifications for a complex Payroll/HRIS (CHRIS 21). Competence using Crystal Reports or other 3rd party reporting tools (SQL based) would be a definite advantage
  • High level analytical skills and numeric reasoning
