The Role


The Families and Young People Services team have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, knowledgeable, resilient, proactive and experienced professional counsellor to join Mercy Community's Family and Relationship Services (FaRS) Counselling program on a Permanent Part-time basis.

Based in our Ipswich office this position offers 45 hours per fortnight.


You will provide a range of services, including counselling, assessment, intervention planning and support, to adult individuals, couples and families, throughout their lifespan.


Specifically, the FaRS Counsellor position provides relationship and family counselling and therapeutic services to clients through a range of modalities including Family Systems Theory, Ecosystems Theory, Gottman's Approach, Expressive Therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT).

The counsellor position will provide engagement, assessment, counselling, support, planning, intervention and pre & post-evaluation.

This position also liaises and interacts with a broad network of stakeholders who participate in or impact on the successful outcomes for our clients and families.

This position offers a competitive salary of $82,044 - $88,288 plus superannuation (dependent on qualifications and experience).

To be eligible for this position you will require:

  • Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Experience developing and implementing individualised and/or family intervention plans.
  • You will hold a Provisional Green (P2) or above Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
  • Evidence of a current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement unless applicable exemption provided as per the relevant Mercy Communities procedure.
