Position Information:

Tharawal Public School is located in the southern suburbs of metropolitan Sydney and has a student enrolment of 353.

The school culture is that of connectedness, inclusion and belonging with students, staff, parents and the wider community working together to promote school excellence.

The school is supported by a strong and vibrant community.

26% of students have a language background other than English and 6% of students receive some level of EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support.

2% of students identify as Aboriginal.


There is a mutual respect between students, staff and the parent community, as they work together to educate the students academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

The responsibility to educate students to their full potential is recognised by both teachers and parents as they lead students to take responsibility for their learning.

Proven ability to lead Aboriginal Education across the school and the wider community and ensure Aboriginal Histories and Cultures are authentically embedded by staff across all teaching and learning programs.


Outstanding capacity to inspire and model highly effective educational practices and foster innovative, future focused teaching and learning, including diverse curriculum opportunities and pathways for all students.


Exceptional strength in managing a primary school with a clear understanding of Department of Education priorities and policies, providing evidence of experience in continuously improving systems and processes to foster a quality and inclusive teaching and learning environment.


General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
