As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.


Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland.

The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role


The Financial Operations and Systems Support branch manages all activities relating to QFES accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate cards, banking, debt recovery, disaster recovery relief arrangements and financial systems.


As Accounting Support Officer you will be a key member of the team responsible for supporting the day-to-day running of financial operations for corporate card and travel allowance, accounts payable and receivable, including database management for fraedom and SAP finance systems.

You will assist with advice and continuous improvement recommendations, including to support state and regional staff to ensure they comply with departmental policy and procedures for financial best practice and standards.

Key requirements

Highly desirable requirements

  • Experience in Fraedom and SAP ECC for payment management and reporting.
Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Provide business and accounting support to the financial services team in relation to accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking support services, debt administration and corporate card administration.
  • Prepare or verify vouchers and other documentation to process financial transactions in accordance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with internal staff and external stakeholders, including vendors in relation to business and accounting support matters and resolve issues and/or escalate to ensure consistent delivery of services.
  • Assist with financial and business administration functions, including revenue and expense management to ensure governance and compliance of departmental policy, procedures and standards.
  • Retrieve data from the accounting system to prepare reconciliations or reports for management using word processing, spreadsheets or financial management software.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of systems, policies and procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with financial helpdesk support as required and provide advice to frontline officers and staff relating to best practice processes, user functions, including access rights for fraedom and SAP finance systems.
