ABOUT THE ROLE:

AWX are looking for motivated people to join our clients Field Officer staff to help eradicate invasive species located in Berrinba and Laidley

  • Conduct fieldbased surveillance, sample collection, mapping and treatment activities in accordance with operating procedures for the eradication of targeted weeds, pests and biosecurity hazards.
  • Undertake assigned tasks efficiently, safely in challenging environments, complete tasks to the required standard and work cooperatively with fellow team members.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness and dexterity and promptly notify your manager of any injury, illness or loss of capacity to undertake standard physical tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate verbally in a clear, concise and polite manner with all staff and members of the community.
  • Engage the public through seeking consent to enter properties and maintaining a polite and professional manner.
  • Answer general questions from members of the public in ways that support the positive public profile of your team, the Program and of Biosecurity Queensland and that help people understand the importance of biosecurity.
  • Work effectively and assist team members to work effectively in challenging environments to complete tasks to high standards.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times and support team members in doing the same.
This includes safe, competent and compliant use of all allocated tools and equipment that may include but is not limited to:
machete, spray units, chainsaws, GPS, All Terrain Vehicles. Competence includes performing daily checks, reporting faults promptly and undertaking minor maintenance/cleaning as per standard operating procedures.

  • Working with a range of chemicalbased ant baits, when conducting treatment activities. This includes using a hand driven bait spreader.
  • Be prepared to work with and handle chemicals (eg. PTFE Fluoroplastic and DAAF 3)

Mandatory requirements to this role are:

  • First Aid Certificate currently (or the ability to acquire one)
  • Current CA class automatic drivers licence.
  • The position works a 9day fortnight, Monday to Friday, with every 2nd Monday rostered off. Hours are 7am to 4pm, with a 30minute lunch break and rest pauses. On the alternative Friday, the hours are 7am to 3.30pm.

Highly desirable to this role are:
A sound level of computer skills and literacy
Location of role: 1x Laidley and 1x Berrinba
