Position Information:


John Warby Public School has an enrolment of approximately 250 students from Preschool to Year 6, currently including 24 students in the 3 class support unit (consisting of one IM and two MC classes) in 2023.

In 2024 the school will have an additional support class (IO/AU).

24% of students across the school are from a language background other than English and 24% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

The school successfully caters for students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and aims to develop the whole child and cater for individual differences, providing programs to support specific needs.

John Warby Public School is currently undergoing a slight increase in enrolments due to the re-development of the Airds community.


The school continues to build on quality teaching, learning and leadership practices, with commitment to improving and sustaining student results in literacy and numeracy.

Staff comprises of early career teachers to highly experienced, expert teachers. The school enjoys the support of the P&C and highly values community involvement in all aspects of school life. John Warby Public School is a member of the Airds/Bradbury Community of Schools.


Selection Criteria:

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Approval and/or experience to teach special education (including knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act, Disability Standards for Education, and the different models of disability) to teach students with complex needs including Autism, challenging behaviours, and mental health concerns.
  • Visible, effective, and collaborative leader with experience in team management, building positive, inclusive, trusting relationships with families, staff, external agencies, and the wider community.
  • High level organisational and management skills to balance classroom teaching with complex administration and ongoing improvement, in line with Department of Education policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience in leading teachers to develop and implement innovative and differentiated learning programs designed to improve outcomes for students with additional learning and support needs.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
