The Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW Sydney works in partnership with government, industry, and human rights defenders in Australia and globally, to exchange knowledge, influence decision-makers, and achieve real world impact through strategic and rigorous research.


The Institute is currently looking for a communications officer to assist with coordinating and writing its monthly newsletter, the Human Rights Defender, which amplifies the work staff and associates doing human rights work across UNSW.

Experience working with content management systems such as MailChimp would be an advantage.


Position Summary


The Communication Assistant is responsible for providing practical and efficient communications support to a business unit through activities such as planning, coordinating, formatting, and distributing communications.


This role will:

  • Work with department staff to ensure deadlines for communications content are met.
  • Utilise different systems and platforms as required to prepare effective and professional communications that are consistent with UNSW and the business unit's objectives, guidelines, and practices.
  • Assist with subediting communications, including occasional image sourcing and design.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Prior administrative/communications work experience.
  • Attention to detail and organisation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and other online systems.
