About the team

The Technical Team provides discipline specific, applied knowledge and skill sets to support the Service Delivery Centre's teaching and research goals in unison with our academic staff.

This team of practitioners is focused on high performance, outcomes, compliance and contributing to a pragmatic safety culture via the implementation of safe systems of work.

The team operates across a broad portfolio including teaching, laboratory management, instrument/equipment stewardship, research training/design/optimisation and analysis, program coordination, workshop design, manufacture and repair, compliance and, Occupational Health and Safety objectives.


About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under limited supervision, provide high level of discipline specific technical expertise and support to academics, technical and students for any practical activities or research productivity.

You will work independently, and as part of a team, to provide support to academic staff delivering the postgraduate Optometry course, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and government regulatory or advisory requirements.

This will include delivering inductions and training sessions to students in dispensing of optical goods and the correct use of diagnostic optical equipment.

The team provides a wide array of specific technical support and is responsible for the development and implementation of safe systems of work in laboratory spaces.


To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary or technical qualification or equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant technical experience at an appropriate level
  • Ability to supervise staff
  • Proven ability in implementing a range of policies and procedures to support teaching and research from a technical and scientific perspective
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines

About you

We are looking for a highly motivated person with relevant experience to manage all technical operations in the dedicated Optometry teaching labs.

This exciting opportunity involves training UWA's students for the Doctor of Optometry, the first course of its kind in Western Australia and leading the way in optical training across the state.

You will work independently alongside academic staff to deliver the practical component of the course, you will be detail orientated and be prepared to work to the highest level facilitating an excellent student experience.
