Who are we looking for?
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Team Leader Mechanical Services to join Facilities Management, Administrative Division.


The Team Leader (Mechanical Services) is responsible for (i) the day-to-day direction of all HVAC tradespersons within the Facilities Management Department (ii) the management of mechanical preventive maintenance contracts (e.g.

air-conditioning, fume cupboards) (iii) the project management of a range of contracted maintenance and construction works, as assigned and (iv) the management and on-going development of building management systems and related technologies.

The Team Leader (Mechanical Services) works cooperatively and closely with other maintenance team leaders, engineering, technical, project management and subordinate staff within Facilities Management.

The incumbent also provides expert advice and makes recommendations on all proposed capital and minor works projects and proactively engages in the commissioning of new buildings and refurbishment projects.

The incumbent is expected to maintain a high level of understanding and appreciation of contemporary standards and legislation governing the field of mechanical services and assists the Manager, Maintenance Services on risk management strategies in regard to the maintenance of mechanical systems.

The position requires high level skills in the area of building management systems (BMS) and automation, at both the operational and system development levels.

This position reports to the Manager, Maintenance Services for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

The Administrative Division is led by the Vice-President (Administration) and University Registrar.


About the Department

The Facilities Management Department within the Division of Administrative Services is responsible for managing the process of design, construction, maintenance and operation of the physical facilities, and the provision of a range of support services across the University's two main campuses at Gardens Point, Kelvin Grove and a range of smaller offsite facilities.

You will demonstrate:

Selection Criteria

  • Evidence of a mechanical trade qualification together with a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in the mechanical trade including a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a supervisory role within a medium or large private or public organisation and possession of a current Queensland C-Class (manual) driver's license.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of project and contract management of various mechanical maintenance and new works projects.
  • Proven leadership, management and communication skills, with an ability to inspire teamwork and collaborate effectively with QUT staff, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including word processing, cloud based systems and spreadsheet skills with an ability to compile and present technical and other reports.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills in routine technical, operational, organisational and administrative tasks including a good understanding of financial management principles.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of Health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
