Position Summary

The Community Services Group (CSG) develops, maintains, and analyses national data to support monitoring


and reporting of:

  • The health and welfare of key subpopulations, including children and youth, older Australians,
people with disability, and victims and perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence.

  • Use of services within a range of health and welfare sectors, including communitybased services
focused on aged care, child protection and disability.

  • Pathways and outcomes for the general population, key subpopulations and health and welfare
service users.

The Aged Care Data Improvement Unit (within CSG) was established in mid-2021, to take forward new work

in response to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety which

concluded in early 2021. Funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, the Unit's responsibilities are

to report on targets to reduce the number of young people in residential aged care over the next 3 years to

2026 and to undertake a range of aged care data improvement activities to support the national aged care

data system to provide timely, reliable and comprehensive information that is responsive to the needs of

various users in the system.

The Aged Care and Data Improvement Unit are seeking Data Analysts and Senior Data Analysts at the APS5

and APS6 levels to assist with undertaking a range of aged care data improvement activities. While being

analytical in nature, these roles require well-rounded Analysts who can bring their organisational and

communication skills to balanced roles.


Under general direction you will:

  • Undertake and assist with a range of research, design, project planning or data development tasks to
deliver required outcomes and outputs.

  • Undertake the collection and/or analysis of data and the preparation of reports, publications, papers
and submissions.

  • Provide advice and options on a wide range of professional, technical and administrative matters.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a team to projects and/or activities.
  • Represent the AIHW at meetings, conferences or seminars and liaise with people both inside and
outside the AIHW as relevant to the above duties.
