Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall geotechnical expertise to interpret geotechnical conditions against the design selection criteria
  • Assign support types and develop other design solutions, including additional support as required by conditions or design documentation
  • Review geological mapping records, endoscope hole inspection records and probe hole inspection records (vertical and horizontal)
  • Review monitoring records and direct additional monitoring locations at the PTT; increase monitoring frequency as required by the design documentation
  • Prepare geotechnical record reports for issue by Document control
  • Attend Permit to Excavate (PTE) and Permit to Tunnel (PTT) meetings
  • Liaise with CJV Construction and Designer
  • Strategically plan CPS services against construction requirements including allocating personnel resources
  • Mentor geologists and instruct in proper tunnel mapping procedures
  • Regularly assess and audit CPS personnel performances and competency
  • Attend Monitoring Action Team (MAT) meetings
  • Liase with the relevant CJV Department Construction Manager
  • Facilitate hold and witness points release as outlined in Design Drawings
  • Use their geotechnical expertise to prepare RFI's for submission by CJV to the Designer when conditions differ from design drawings or criteria.
  • Raise CPS hold points for ground conditions encountered outside of design selection criteria

Qualifications:


  • Minimum
    10 years of experience in design and construction of major civil engineering projects, including tunnelling projects. Some sitebased experience is required.
  • Experienced with field mapping, rock mass classification systems & observational method
  • Tertiary qualification in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, liaise with Contractor onsite daily
  • Good writing skills
  • Undertake daily tunnel inspections to observe ground conditions and identify geotechnical related safety risks
  • Oncall support for geologists and Site team outside of business hours (telephone allowance provided)
  • Understanding of Project design documents
  • Understanding of the PTE, PTT, and MAT processes
  • Understanding of geotechnical record reporting requirements
  • Current drivers licence
