About the role

Mater Research is searching for an experienced Research Officer to join our Glycation and Diabetes Complications team at our South Brisbane campus.

Reporting to Prof Josephine Forbes, this role will be offered on a full-time basis (1.0 FTE 5 days per week) for a 6-month period.

Salary:
$90518 pa - $ MR Academic L5) p.a. + super + generous salary packaging available


What you'll be doing


In this important role you will be allocated research activity relevant to the Glycation and Diabetes Complications team and their type 1 diabetes prevention program.

You will be responsible to ensure timeliness of the preclinical and clinical research procedures and research protocols.

You will be expected to conduct preclinical research studies and contribute to clinical sample analysis whilst ensuring that the applicable local, national and international regulations and standards are being met.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research (including project plans and ethics submissions)
  • Provide research coordination including monitoring of project timelines
  • Participate in set up and qualitative assessment of various immunological assays
  • Conduct literature reviews using relevant technologies
  • Maintain a constructive relationship with partner organisations including UQ, biotech collaborators and other
  • Present updates, overviews and findings internally and to partner organizations (e.g. workshop participation
  • Undertake other research duties as required and consistent with the level of appointment
  • Attend relevant training programs and mandatory educational programs, workshops, conference and promotional functions

About you

You will be an experienced researcher with a passion to be involved in research that makes a tangible difference to the lives of people with diabetes.


Additionally, you will possess the following:

  • Degree in science or medicine, with postgraduate qualifications in science or medicine
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills necessary for negotiating and liaising effectively with a diverse range of staff, students, researchers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to collect and process biological samples to clinical standards is desirable
  • Current experience in Diabetes and related complications is highly desirable
  • Ability to conduct clinical research to ensure consistency and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Experience in implementing and conducting clinical and preclinical research including ethics proposals and documentation
  • Knowledge of data management systems
  • Project management skills
  • Advanced computer skills
