The Role

The Directorate of Multinational Relations and Interoperability (DMRI) is seeking a highly motivated Strategic and International Policy Officer to provide support to international Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) relationships and to assist with the coordination of bilateral C4 Working Groups and regional C4 interoperability initiatives.


You will coordinate and support AUS contributions to regional interoperability C4I forums with a range Indo-Pacific partners, Five Eyes Command, Control, Communications and Computing (C4) Working Groups and regional interoperability initiatives.

This role includes interpreting Defence policy and guidance to inform future C4I policy and capability requirements and ICT standards.


This will mainly involve direct support to DMRI International Engagement team in coordinating Defence and international stakeholder engagement in order to deliver interoperability work program outcomes.

The role includes occasional virtual meetings outside of regular work hours and the potential for international travel.


About our Team

Directorate of Multinational Relations and Interoperability (DMRI) manages international engagement and relationships with allies and other military partners in order to develop and influence policies, standards and information sharing capability interoperability outcomes aligned with Government and Defence priorities.


DMRI supports the achievement of multinational C4 interoperability outcomes through international engagement with key allies and partners to deliver ICT outcomes that support Government and Defence guidance and priorities.

This engagement is undertaken in bilateral and multilateral C4 forums that support COD commitments and obligations to Defence.

  • Ability to fit in and contribute to the delivery of DMRI business outcomes;
  • Ability to network with a wide range of Defence stakeholders and international counterparts;
  • A proven capacity to coordinate complex work programs to deliver results on time;
  • Proven interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in government;
  • Experience in ICT policy, capability development and program management;
  • Ability to conduct independent research and analysis ;
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare talking points, briefs and communications;
  • Flexibility to deliver international teleconferences outside of normal business hours;
  • Willingness to undertake occasional international or domestic travel (if required); and
