John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella have commenced design and construction work for the Sydney Metro West - Eastern Tunnelling Package.

With a contract worth $1.63 billion, the Eastern Tunnelling Package includes construction of 3.5-kilometre tunnels under Sydney Harbour between The Bays and the Sydney CBD, and the excavation of Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

Starting at The Bays, tunnel boring machines will cross the harbour near the Anzac Bridge, before heading to the new Pyrmont station and then under Darling Harbour before reaching Hunter Street in the heart of the CBD.

This is the final piece in the puzzle to deliver the city-shaping Sydney Metro West project.

Once completed, Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between greater Paramatta and the Sydney CBD, with travel times of around 20 minutes between the two centres.

The Planner role has is required over the full project lifecycle, undertake the process of planning, creating detailed programmes, and monitoring performance to deliver the best quality project on time and on budget in accordance with the TSE Works procedures.

The role:

Implement planning strategies and reviews for projects.
Ensure monitoring and reporting of Project Controls processes are successfully setup and implemented on projects.
Interface with project team, partners, clients, stakeholders, consultants, designers, vendors, subcontractors for management of the planning function in accordance with established procedures
Proactively lead a planning and controls culture across the project based on best practice and with a focus on risk management, cost control and SQE.
People interaction: collaboration, consultation, and cooperation with project staff in order to coordinate information flow for the performance of the planning and controls functions, including for the performance of subcontractors.
Compile and collate reference and benchmarking data for future planning purposes in accordance with the TSE Works schedule.
Financial Management: undertake the implementation of project monitoring systems, particularly focussing on time, cost, resources & quality (project controls & earned value). Ensure that planning and controls reports generated across TSE Works provide maximum cost and time forecasting certainty for the Project.
Support Project Managers and Construction Managers in report interpretation, analysis of project performance, forward planning, and development of corrective

Skills and Experience:

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
Proven success working in a Planner position on a major project.
Experience working on a tunnelling project will be highly regarded.
Excellent computer and communication skills
