The Rail Systems Project Leader is a key role that has been identified as a strategic position within the rail discipline to ensure the delivery of multidisciplinary complex rail projects.

Due to the nature of this position, you can be located on Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne (with possibility to be based in other locations across the ANZ region).


About the role


The rail systems Leader is a key role in the Australasia Rail business for major and specific rail systems project delivery.

This position will oversee a range of major rail projects across the ANZ region with plenty of opportunity to make your mark as you provide technical and project leadership expertise, we are open to people with a range of rail systems specialisms including Systems, Signalling, Traction, Telecoms.

You will organise and mentor project teams and liaise with clients and key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.

Key details are as follows:

  • You will be responsible for the current and future performance of the rail systems area as part of the project and business leadership team;
  • You will be responsible for procuring and delivering rail systems projects;
  • You will be held responsible for the development, design and technical management of projects. This will involve coordinating people, facilities and resources within tight timelines and in line with budgetary constraints and managing project risk;
  • You will be accountable for client relationships and of representing the business at a high level in geography and across Australia;
  • You will contribute to the recruitment, appraisals, performance development, morale and motivation of staff.

About you

Skills & experience

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Relevant industry experience in rail systems within a consulting business environment;
  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, IT, systems engineering or similar area;
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership;
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines and Arup's related procedures including OH&S

Personal Attributes

  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and nontechnical environments;
  • Effective written communication and report writing skills;
  • Ability to maintain personal effectiveness particularly during periods of higher than normal workload;
  • Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines;
  • Desire to excel;
