About the OPPORTUNITY


An opportunity now exists for an Engineering Service Manager to demonstrate their technical expertise and make a valuable contribution within Maritime sustainment.


This rare position will be offered on a permanent and full time basis and will be based in Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working.

You will be responsible for the oversight of all engineering activities on a new sustainment role designed to optimise the capability of the RAN's Hobart class destroyers.

This position is responsible for delivering engineering outputs of the project within the triple constraints of quality, cost and schedule

The guided missile destroyers are expected to undergo significant upgrades to their combat management system, ensuring a more efficient and reliable defence in both air and sea.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Manage the strategic direction and development of products and services developed within the Programme
  • Manage appropriate overall engineering capability needed to deliver the engineering products and services required to achieve design completion of the sustainment activities
  • In conjunction with direct report Engineering Managers, prepare Engineering data for production enablement in Maritime Sustainment
  • Oversee the technical aspects of major procurement activities within area of responsibility
  • Guide development and execution of Programme plans and specific development activities associated with development of Programme products ensuring they are compliant to the Operational Framework and compliant to the safety and security policies
  • In conjunction with direct report Engineering Managers, establish Strategic Resource Plans to provide the Engineering capability to deliver engineering solutions both now and into the future
  • Undertake detailed planning and estimating to establish the Work Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, earned value measurement system, and staffing profile for significant program changes or future programs
  • Guide the Engineering Change Management team in setting up the scope of work according to data received from Defence partners
About YOU

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent Tertiary qualifications and experience satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia
  • Previous shipbuilding / sustainment / manufacturing experience will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated Team Lead knowledge and experience with substantial formal engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering Principles
  • Working Knowledge of Defence project environments
  • Demonstrated experience in Team Leadership and Team Management of a midlarge sized project
  • NV1 clearance or eligibility required
