About the role


Mater Group is currently seeking a
Finance Business Partner to join the Business Advisory team to support the Mater Health business.

This is a permanent full-time position based based at the South Brisbane campus (with occasional days at our Newstead office).

What you'll be doing


Reporting to the Director Enterprise Performance Management and working under the direction and guidance of the Head of Finance and Operations at the relevant hospital/s, this role will help create value through information, insights and influence on a particular portfolio of the business.


You will achieve this by:

  • Understand key drivers of the business and how they relate to the financial performance of the business including revenue, volume, and cost drivers of the business (patient / product profitability)
  • Identify and communicate trends and opportunities for improvement and identify financial risk to the business
  • Liaise with senior business leaders to review and analyse financial performance and provide financial input to development of interventions related to business performance
  • Coordinate, participate and perform end of month tasks, alongside with Financial Accounting and Enterprise Performance Management teams
  • Attend Branch/Area Leadership Meetings to provide insight and analysis of the financial situation and identify key opportunities for improvement in collaboration with the business managers
  • Use tools available (Clinical costing / Power BI etc.) to analyse trends and engage with business on associated financial impact / opportunity
  • Work with the business to develop business cases, complete financial modelling and conduct planning activities
  • Analyse financial and nonfinancial information to provide insight into the performance of facilities/departments to identify risk/constraints and enhance decision making
  • Support business development activity including the development of new opportunities leading to new growth opportunities/business cases
  • Support the development and implementation of finance best practices and work with the business to build financial literacy
  • Manage the annual operating budget process for relevant hospitals in conjunction with Head of Finance and Operations and Enterprise Performance Management team
  • Support management and development of Assistant Finance Business Partners

About you
To be successful in this role you will be passionate about partnering with stakeholders to help them make the best financial decisions


You will also posses:

  • Relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications including professional standing for current membership or eligibility for membership of a recognised Australian accounting body, either the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or similar membership
  • Health specific or complex sector background required
  • Extensive experience in business partnering in a large size complex business
  • Proven ability to contribute to strategic decision making and identifying strategic and operational opportunities for improved financial outcomes
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including consultation, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to communicate with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders and clearly explain complex issues in lay terms
  • Leverages the principles of performance measurement including aligning key metrics and monthly reporting with goals and objectives to deliver insights into the value obtained from operational and strategic decision making
  • Demonstrated presentation and report writing skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and commitments and the ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions
  • High level of proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leveraging ERP (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Proven ability to use reporting tools such as TM1 and PowerBI to draw insights and drive decisions
