W Sydney, opening in Darling Harbour in October 2023, is now casting for an Assistant Director of Engineering to lead the day-to-day operation of the engineering department.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this integral role provides engineering leadership to the business and presents an amazing opportunity to play a key role in the pre-opening efforts of the world's largest W Hotel.


The Assistant Director of Engineering's primary responsibilities include assisting the Director of Engineering in executing strategies that maintain the building, contents and grounds with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection.

Position directs and works with engineering talent to carry out the daily activities of the Engineering Department, overseeing maintenance activities, talent relations, contractor management, performance management and learning and development.

Executes against objectives outlined in the Engineering Business Plan and delivers services that meet and exceed the needs of guests and enable business success.

Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and HIDs (standard operating procedures).


To be successful as an Assistant Director of Engineering you will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, a flair for culture, be creative, thinking out of the box constantly, highly organized, and have an exceptional inter-personal skill.


Talent Profile

Education & Experience Required

  • Qualifications in Engineering Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing.
  • Minimum two years experience in engineering/facilities management in busy, luxury hotel/hospitality environment.
  • Preopening experience will be advantageous.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and Microsoft Office skills, and a strong attention to detail.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively plans, schedules and evaluates maintenance programs.
  • Support and manage the engineering team day to day operations.
  • Drives learning and development opportunities for internal engineering talent.
  • Supports and drives improved guest experiences.
  • Manage external contractors and outsourced preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist budget control and forecast of expenses.
  • Manages spare parts, supplies and equipment procurement.
  • Drive synergies with key departments and stakeholders.
  • Supports and innovates energy, water and waste conservation programs.
